Former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma became only the third opener to start his innings with two sixes in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Having scored a fifty in each of his previous two innings, the right-handed opener came into the clash against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27 (Sunday) in great form.
Rohit was up against tearaway quick Mayank Yadav, who was also playing his first game of the IPL 2025. The paceman tested Rohit with two quick bouncers and the 37-year-old responded by sending both those deliveries over the deep backward square leg fence.
By doing so, Rohit became only the third opener in IPL history to slam his first two deliveries for a six. Virat Kohli and Yashasvi Jaiswal are the other two batters who have done the same.

When it comes to MI, Harbhajan Singh is the only other batter (at any position) with the same record. What’s more, Rohit now has the second-most number of sixes in the IPL powerplay after Chris Gayle.
143 - Chris Gayle
107 - Rohit Sharma
105 - David Warner
82 - Quinton de Kock
Mayank, however, got his revenge in the same over as Rohit mistimed a slower delivery straight into the hands of the fielder at short third after scoring 12 off five balls.
