In one of the rare instances in cricket in India in this decade, floodlight failure left players frustrated as they were forced to leave the field during the second ODI against England at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on February 9 (Sunday).
The incident occurred in the seventh over of the Indian innings as they were chasing 305 to win the second ODI and take an unassailable lead in the three-match series.
At one point, it seemed that the match would resume shortly as the floodlights kept flickering. However, even after the umpires and the players showed persistence, the match had to be interrupted as players returned to the dressing rooms.
The Indian captain Rohit Sharma looked very frustrated as he was going great guns having broken Rahul Dravid and Chris Gayle’s record on his way to 29 off just 18 balls. India remained 48 without loss with Rohit and Shubman Gill in the middle at the time the game was stopped.
This was the first ODI played at the Barbati Stadium in Cuttack after a gap of six years.
