In what comes as an interesting move, former India captain Rohit Sharma is all set to return to T20 cricket following the conclusion of the ongoing One-Day International (ODI) series against South Africa. Rohit has reportedly expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the knockout stages of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT), which will be held in Indore between December 12 and 18.
This comes as a surprise as the 38-year-old has already retired from T20 Internationals (T20I), closing that chapter of his career after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in June last year.
"Rohit has expressed his desire to play for Mumbai in the knockouts of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy," said a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), according to a report by Times of India.
Rohit is currently only in the 50-over format for India, and according to various reports, will take part in the Vijay Hazare Trophy as well.
In the SMAT, Shardul Thakur-led Mumbai have won four of their five games in the tournament so far. The star-studded side boasts of players like Suryakumar Yadav, Ajinkya Rahane, Sarfaraz Khan and teenager Ayush Mhatre.
Mumbai, who suffered a 15-run loss at the hands of Kerala in the previous game, will hope to get back to winning ways when they take on Chhattisgarh next in Lucknow on December 6 (Saturday).
