The last time India played an ICC Event Final, they had as many as three superstars — Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja — hang up their boots from T20I cricket, marking the end of an era.
There is a lot of excitement surrounding the Champions Trophy Final in Dubai on March 9 (Sunday), but many fear that the game might end up being the last One Day International (ODI) for skipper Rohit, who will turn 38 next month and will be 40 by the time the ODI World Cup comes about.
So, is there a chance Rohit might end up hanging his boots tomorrow, regardless of the result? “We have not discussed this at the moment. All the chatter is about winning the match,” Shubman Gill said ahead of the all-important final.
“What we have to do to win the match. I think Rohit is thinking about the same. I think he is focusing on winning the Champions Trophy first.”
Gill, however, did not fully rule out the possibility of Rohit possibly calling it quits on Sunday.
“I think once the match gets over tomorrow, he will take a call, but I have not heard of this from anyone in the team,” Gill said.
