Rohit Sharma Works Hard On His Fitness, Wrong To Assume Otherwise: Former India Coach

The India ODI captain will next be seen in action during the white-ball series against Australia in October

Rohit Sharma's fitness has always been a topic widely discussed across the cricketing circles. The topic has now gathered more heat, especially after his T20I and Test retirement. Rohit is now only active in One-Day Internationals (ODI) - a format in which he still leads the team.

Regardless of his fitness, Rohit has scored plenty of runs over the last decade and has played a vital role in taking India to a new level, especially in white-ball cricket. Even in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has led Mumbai Indians (MI) to five titles.

Soham Desai, former strength and conditioning coach of the Indian team, has said that it is wrong to assume Rohit does not work hard on his fitness.

“People assume Rohit doesn’t work hard on his fitness. Given his history, for him to lead at the highest level for four years with a game or two missed is significant. He cannot do that by fluke, right? He must be doing something right," Desai told the Indian Express.

"Can he get better? Yes, 100%. He will be the first one to say that. But to assume that he doesn’t work hard is a bit much."

The 38-year-old was due to return to action for the series against Bangladesh. But with that series rescheduled to next year, Rohit will next be in action in Australia, where India are due to play a white-ball series in October.
