Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians (MI) announced that they had traded Indian captain Hardik Pandya back into the setup from Gujarat Titans. In the aftermath of that event, the five-time IPL winners have now sent talented Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a sum of INR 17.5 crore.Ā
RCB had let go of a plethora of their stars, including Josh Hazlewood, Wanindu Hasaranga and Harshal Patel, leaving them with enough space to build a bowling unit. However, given the circumstances, they traded in Green, which solves two of their biggest problem - middle-order and bowling depth.Ā

āWe got a strong top-order, we wanted to enhance our middle-order with some power. That was always going to be our priority, now preferably someone who is a pace-bowling all-rounder. With us having had to release Wanindu Hasaranga, it allowed us to have an overseas player. So, Cameron Green was a great fit for us. This is where our focus lied,ā RCBās Director of Cricket, Mo Bobat said in a video released by the franchise.Ā
āHeās a high quality, skillful and powerful batter. He has international experience across formats, and he would love to bat at Chinnaswamy Stadium. We also wanted a bowler who can extract good bounce, something that works well at home for us.ā
The 2016 IPL finalists have shelled INR 17.5 crore for the all-rounder, and their head coach, Andy Flower, was pleased with the inclusion. Flower, who has worked very closely with Green during his time with the Australian national team, stated that Greenās inclusion could well help them get a good balance in the middle-order.Ā
āOur focus area was in the middle-order, and where we could improve that middle-order. The other area was to get the balance right, in the overseas player segment. All-rounders are still very important, we debated on how we wanted to include all-rounders in the XI, and the flexibility that gives us. We looked at the roster of the players, and it was a fascinating buy,ā RCBās head coach Andy Flower said.Ā
