RR fined for slow over-rate during nail-biting win over CSK

Since it was their first offence, their Royals' skipper Sanju Samson was fined INR 12 lakh

Rajasthan Royals (RR) have been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their nail-biting three-run win over Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk on Wednesday (April 12). Since this was their first offence, skipper Sanju Samson has been fined INR 12 lakh, as mentioned in the Indian Premier League's (IPL) code of conduct concerning minimum over-rate offences.

A couple of days ago, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) skipper Faf du Plessis was given the same punishment. Du Plessis was found to be a couple of overs behind schedule during RCB's one-run loss over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Bengaluru.

Any further over-rate offences could lead to the entire team being fined 25% of their match fee or INR 6 lakh, whichever is lesser. However, for the third offence, the captain of the bowling side will be fined INR 30 lakh and will also be banned for a match. The rest of the side will consequently be fined 60% of their match fee or INR 12 lakh, whichever is lesser.

The Samson-led RR pulled off an incredible win over CSK to register their first win at the Chepauk since 2008. Ravichandran Ashwin starred with both bat (20 off 22) and ball (2 for 25) as RR successfully defended 175.As a result, they went top of the IPL 2023 table.

They next take on Gujarat Titans (GT) on Sunday (April 16) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
