Gujarat Titans have the best opening wicket pair in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
It isn’t just a blanket statement anymore as Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan put on a dazzling show for the opening wicket against Delhi Capitals, with a 205-run partnership in the run-chase on May 18 (Sunday).
In the process, the opening pair equalled a world record, becoming only the second pair in history to notch up a 200-run opening stand in a run chase. The pair equalled Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam’s record, with the Pakistani duo chasing a 200 target with ease against England.
Chasing 200, the Titans needed a solid start from their opening pair. The two got off to a more-than-solid start, with the left-handed Sudharsan taking a liking to T Natarajan, smashing the left-arm seamer for 36 runs, the most he’s hit against a bowler in an IPL game, surpassing his 34-run duel against Matheesha Pathirana back in 2023.

On the other hand, Gill also smashed the spin duo of Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav. While Sudharsan got to his second IPL century (108 off 61), his batting partner, Gill, could only get himself to an unbeaten 93 off 53 deliveries.
