Scott Boland takes 10 as Australia need 162 to regain Border-Gavaskar Trophy

The Australia pacer finished with match figures of 10/76 as Australia look to beat India in a Test series for the first time in a decade

Australia wasted little time on day three as they managed to bundle India out for 157 at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) against India. As a result, the hosts need 162 runs to win their first Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 10 years.

Scott Boland finished with figures of 6/45 in the second innings and picked up his maiden 10-wicket haul in Tests in the process. His figures of 10/76 are the best match figures by an Australian bowler against India at SCG.

Best match figures against India in Sydney in Tests:

10/76 - Scott Boland, 2025

10/103 - Glenn McGrath, 2000

8/97 - Bob Simpson, 1968

8/157 - Ben Hilfenhaus, 2012

These are also the best figures for an Australian pacer against India since 2000. India started the day at 141/6 and managed to add just 16 more runs to their total. Pat Cummins picked up two while Boland did the rest.

Since 2000, only thrice has a target in excess of 150 been successfully chased down at the SCG. If India defend this, it will be the fifth-lowest target to be defended in Sydney.

Lowest total defended in Sydney in Tests:

111 - England vs Australia, 1887

117 - South Africa vs Australia, 1994

153 - England vs Australia, 1883

159 - Australia vs Pakistan, 1973

176 - Australia vs Pakistan, 2010

In what comes as good news for India, Jasprit Bumrah came out to bat and the team will hope that he comes out to bowl at some point. He had left the ground on January 4 (Saturday) to undergo scans on his back.
