Virat Kohli was an extremely happy man on the night of June 3, 2025, after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). It wasn’t only because he had finally achieved what he wished to do for 18 years, but also because it brought to fruition the efforts of his family, and especially his wife, Anushka Sharma, in his success.
Speaking on her role in his RCB career, Kohli brought up the Bengaluru roots of the Bollywood actress and producer who has been attending RCB games as Kohli’s girlfriend since 2014, and then after 2017 as his wife. Notably, Anushka has spent her formative years in Bengaluru.
“So it’s been 11 years for her [Anushka] as well, you know,” Kohli told the broadcasters after the win.
“Relentlessly coming to games, watching tough games, watching us just miss out. What your life partner does for you to be able to play, and the sacrifices, and the commitment, and just backing you through thick and thin, is something you can’t explain in words. Only when you play professionally, you understand the number of things that go on behind the scenes, and what they go through as well.
“What Anushka has gone through emotionally, watching me, being down and out, her coming to games, being so connected with Bangalore, she’s a Bangalore girl as well, and being connected to RCB, this is very, very special for her as well, and she’s going to be so, so proud,” Kohli added with a lot of gratitude in his demeanour for his spouse.
Anushka was there in the stands during the final as well, and was seen jumping in jubilation in the stands after RCB’s maiden IPL victory.
