India batter Shubman Gill has overtaken former Pakistan skipper Babar Azam as the No. 1 batter in the latest ICC ODI Rankings ahead of the Champions Trophy. Gill had a superb series against England recently, scoring a hundred in the third ODI in Ahmedabad, to go with 60 and 87 in the previous two matches.
This is the second time Gill has reached the top of the ODI rankings. He had done so midway through the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, where he scored 354 runs, which included four fifties in nine innings.
Gill has established a 23 rating points lead over Babar Azam. His skipper Rohit Sharma remains third on the list, 45 points behind. Other than Gill and Rohit, Virat Kohli (6) and Shreyas Iyer (9) are among the top 10 batters.
On the bowling front, Sri Lanka's Maheesh Theekshana has reached the top of the ODI bowler's rankings for the first time in his career. Rashid Khan drops to second, but will hope to get back on top during the Champions Trophy as he trails by just 11 points.
Kuldeep Yadav goes up one spot to fourth, while Mohammed Siraj at 10th is the only other Indian in the top 10.
