Shubman Gill, on February 12 (Wednesday), created a unique record during the third One-Day International (ODI) against England at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The young opener became the first Indian and overall fifth batter to have a century in all three formats at one venue. In Ahmedabad, Gill smashed an unbeaten 126 against New Zealand in a T20I in February 2023 before hitting 128 in a Test against Australia in March 2023.
Coming into the third ODI against England, Gill had scores of 16 and 4 in his previous two ODIs in Ahmedabad, but managed to reach the triple figure mark at his favourite venue. The 25-year-old smashed 112 off 102 deliveries, hitting 14 fours and three sixes.
Pakistan’s Babar Azam (Karachi), South Africa’s Faf du Plessis (Johannesburg), Australia’s David Warner (Adelaide) and South Africa’s Quinton de Kock (Centurion) are the other four batters who have done it previously. .
Gill also has three centuries in Ahmedabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Earlier in his innings, the Punjab batter also became the seventh Indian player to smash three consecutive 50-plus scores in a three-match bilateral series.
That’s not all. Gill is the quickest to 2500 runs in ODIs. He reached the landmark in his 50th ODI innings, breaking Hashim Amla’s (51 innings) record.
Therefore, Gill now has the most runs in ODIs after 50 innings - 2587. Amla had 2486, while Pakistan's Imam-ul-Haq scored 2386 in his first 50 ODI innings.
