Shubman Gill is set to make his domestic red-ball return for the first time in two years, making himself available for Punjab’s Ranji Trophy clash against Karnataka. Gill’s move comes on the back of Gautam Gambhir’s stern words for the Indian players, asking them to appear in domestic red-ball fixtures.
Gill’s last appearance in the Ranji Trophy was against Madhya Pradesh in the 2022 season. In those two innings, he scored 19 and 9. Since his debut for the country, Gill has hardly played in the Ranji Trophy, with two appearances in the last five years, and would most likely be making his third when he makes the squad against Karnataka.
“Yes, Shubman Gill is available for Punjab’s Ranji match against Karnataka on January 23,” a source within Punjab Cricket Association PCA) confirmed to Hindustan Times.
Punjab are currently placed second in Group C after Karnataka, with six wins out of seven games, with just net run rate separating the two sides.
