Shubman Gill had an all-time great Test match for India at Edgbaston in Birmingham as he scored 430 runs across two innings, and was the Player of the Match as India won the game by 336 runs. This was India’s first-ever Test victory at Edgbaston, and the young Indian skipper was right at the centre of it.
Former England cricketer Jonathan Trott was extremely appreciative of India’s new number four and said that Gill looked like a complete batter to him and compared him with the former number four, Virat Kohli.
“I honestly feel privileged to be here and witness that innings,” Trott said on JioStar.
“I can’t recall him giving the English bowlers even a single chance. The way he shifted gears — hitting sixes at will — without slogging, just pure cricket shots, was something special. Today, he showed how complete a batter he is. It reminded me of the previous Indian number four — almost a carbon copy of that genius.I don’t think he could’ve dreamed of a better start to his first two Tests on this tour.”
Gill has had a dream start to this England series, as he has scored two centuries and a double century in just the first four innings. He has 585 runs so far in the series, with three Test matches and six potential innings still to go.
