Shubman Gill Is No Less Than Kohli: Former India Cricketer Gushes Over GT Skipper
Ajay Jadeja heaped praise on the GT skipper's consistency and skill with the bat this season
Shubman Gill is in stellar form with the bat in the ongoing 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he smashed his fifth half-century of the season against Sunrisers Hyderabad yesterday, May 2 (Friday), on his team’s home ground in Ahmedabad.
It was the third consecutive half-century for the Gujarat Titans (GT) skipper as his side won the game by 38 runs and strengthened their position in the top two teams of the season. With 465 runs in just 10 games, Gill is looking at a mammoth season with the bat.
Speaking to the broadcasters, former Indian white ball stalwart from the 90s, Ajay Jadeja, couldn’t stop gushing over the young India batter and remarked that his consistency and hunger are like Virat Kohli.
“It’s business as usual with Shubman Gill because this man is just so consistent,” Jadeja said on Jio Hotstar.
"We have a Virat Kohli in our country, but Gill is no less. If you look at the consistency with which he scores, it’s similar in style.
“He doesn’t take unnecessary risks; he waits for the bowler to make a mistake. Unless required, you rarely see him throw his wicket away. Skill-wise, Gill is outstanding. He peppered the offside beautifully today with those cover drives," Jadeja added.
Jadeja, who hails from the erstwhile princely state of Jamnagar, is one of the notable cricketers from Gujarat to play for the nation. He felt that against SRH, GT showed great energy on the field, which helped them bounce back after the loss against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
“I think the right word for GT was ‘energy’. That catch from Rashid Khan and all those diving efforts were fabulous. He ran a lot, slid in and still managed to pull it off. That effort shows," Jadeja said.
“What we saw today was a Gujarat Titans side probably stung by their last loss against the Rajasthan Royals. One thing they were sure of today was giving it their best, and the energy was top-level.”
