Amit Passi might not have thought of even getting a chance to play for Baroda, let alone set a record in his debut innings for his domestic side. But that’s what he did when he smashed a century in his maiden outing for Baroda, while playing in their last league stage match, which was against Services in Hyderabad.
Passi, who replaced Jitesh Sharma in the playing 11 after the latter was selected to represent India against South Africa in the upcoming five-match series, made the most of the opportunity.
He not only hit a century, but broke the record for highest score on debut in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) history. In fact, he managed to equal the world record for the highest score in a debut T20 innings.
After reaching his fifty in 24 balls, the bowler gathered his next fifty runs in 20 balls to complete the century in 44 balls. In the end, he got out for 114, which is equal to what Bilal Asif of Sialkot Stallions had achieved in his debut T20 innings during Pakistan’s premier T20 tournament, back in 2015.
Despite his century and Baroda winning the game, Passi would have to wait for sometime before he plays yet another T20 as he is not part of the IPL and his team failed to move to the Super League of the SMAT 2025.
