Smriti Mandhana beats Harmanpreet to record fastest WODI century for India

Smriti Mandhana, the India Women captain in their three-match ODI series against Ireland, is on a roll. After two fifty-plus scores, she finally broke the shackles and smashed the fastest ODI century by an Indian woman, reaching the milestones in just 70 balls.
Mandhana, while batting alongside her opening partner Pratika Rawal during the third ODI at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot on January 15 (Wednesday), broke the previous record held by regular India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.
Kaur scored two centuries at 87-balls, with the latest one coming against South Africa in 2024 and the first against Australia during her famed 175 runs knock against Australia in the Women’s World Cup 2017 in England.
At one point during Mandhana’s knock, it seemed like she would break the record with ease and might even become the second-fastest WODI centurion ever behind former Australia captain Meg Lanning (45 balls). However, the 28-year-old slowed down a bit before eventually reaching 70 balls.
Thanks to her century, which was her 10th in a career of 97 matches, Mandhana is now one of the only four women players in the game’s history to record 10 WODI tons.

After Mandhana was removed on 135 by Orla Prendergast, the 233-run partnership between her and Rawal ended. It is now the highest partnership by an Indian women pair on Indian soil.
