Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur missed the first T20I of the five-T20I series in England as she sustained a head injury during the warm-up game against the ECB Select XI. The BCCI informed through a post on X (formerly Twitter) that the Indian skipper is being closely monitored by the medical team and is recovering well.
Speaking before the second T20I, off-spinner Sneh Rana informed that the skipper has had some positive signs when it comes to returning in the second T20I, as she joined the team for the practice session on Monday, June 30.
“There are positive signs, she [Harmanpreet] has joined the practice session today," Sneh Rana said in the pre-match press conference. "She will be assessed and monitored post the practice session.
Smriti Mandhana, who captained India in the first game and became the first Indian woman to score a century in all three formats, will be playing her 150th T20I match for the country during the second game in Bristol. Rana said that the team is quite happy for her, and they really value her presence in the team.
"It's a special occasion for her and the Indian team," Rana said of Mandhana. "We are grateful to have her in the team.”
India won the first T20I by a huge margin of 97 runs, and now lead the five-T20I series by 1-0.
