STATS HIGHLIGHTSIndia register their second-lowest Powerplay score
Prior to the first T20I, since 2018, Indian batsmen had scored at a rate of 44.8 runs/wicket and had lost a wicket every 31.1 balls in the first six overs of an innings - best among the top 10 teams. But, it wasn’t the case in the first T20I. India lost three wickets and managed to score only 22 runs.

This is the second-lowest powerplay score for India in a completed 20-over match. They scored one more run of their lowest (21/3) which came against Pakistan in 2016 in Dhaka.
Virat Kohli suffers back-to-back ducks in internationals
How rare is it to see Virat Kohli not score a run in consecutive international innings? The answer is an obvious one, it is as scarce as a hen’s teeth. In 475 international innings prior to today, this had never happened. In any case, by virtue of an eight-ball duck in the fourth Test and a five-ball duck in the first T20I, for the first time in his international career, Kohli hadn’t scored in two consecutive innings. To enhance how big a record this is, Kohli has batted in 761 innings in his cricketing career (including domestic) but has never suffered this fate.
Virat Kohli has the most ducks as an India captain
Kohli has had numerous records as captain and as a batsman for India, all memorable ones. But the record he registered in this match is one of the unusual or rather unwanted record that he would like to forget. Kohli registered his 14th international duck as a captain of India, the most among all skippers.

He went past Sourav Ganguly’s record of 13. Kohli has eight ducks in Tests and three each in ODIs and T20Is as the skipper. Within a span of a month, Kohli has three ducks - two in the Test series and one in the first T20I. Astonishingly, two of those have come against spinners.
Shreyas Iyer registers his highest score
Coming to bat inside the Powerplay overs, Shreyas Iyer had a huge responsibility on his shoulders to take India to a respectable total, especially after the dismissal of Rishabh Pant in the 10th over. He reached his half-century off 36 balls, the only half-centurion of this low-scoring encounter. Before getting dismissed in the last over of the innings, Shreyas registered his highest T20I score (67), surpassing his previous one against Bangladesh (62) in Nagpur in 2019. His innings consisted of eight fours and one maximum.
Most wickets for India
Since Yuzvendra Chahal made his debut in T20Is, he has been India’s strike bowler on a consistent basis. Though his number aren’t great of late, he is the most successful bowler for India in the shortest format. In the first T20I, with the wicket of Jos Buttler in the eighth over, he went past Jasprit Bumrah’s record of 59 to become the leading wicket-taker for India.

Chahal is one of the four India bowlers to bag a five-wicket haul in T20Is. His spell of 6 for 25 against England in 2017 is the third-best by a spinner in T20Is.
