Amongst the few bright spots for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in their worst-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) season has been fast bowler Asnhul Kamboj, who has picked up five wickets in seven appearances for the men in yellow, but showed great potential to be a future prospect for the team that is looking to solve its own player puzzle at the moment.
The 25-year-old, who picked up a 10-wicket haul in the Ranji Trophy this year, has been drafted into the India A squad for the England tour for two unofficial Tests against the England Lions.
Kamboj’s CSK coach, Stephen Fleming, believes that the Haryana pacer could be a handful in English conditions.
“Kamboj is good. You see his speed at 138, 139 and it’s always deceptive. The ball obviously hits the gloves a little harder. His biggest strength is his length, and he gets the ball to wobble,” Fleming said after his team’s 10th loss in 13 matches, with the latest coming against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on May 20 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
“I think he would do really great on that tour if he gets conditions that seem around and there is a little bit of swing. He is going to be an absolute handful,” added the former New Zealand captain.
Fleming further said that Kamboj has great potential with both red and white balls. “He’s got great potential with both white and red balls and we are happy with his development and the opportunities that he has taken this year.”
