T Dilip Is Back, And So Will Be The Famous Fielding Medal Tradition

Dilip was sacked from his position alongside assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in April, but has now been given a one-year contract

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have brought T Dilip back as the fielding coach of the Indian men’s senior team, reported the Indian Express.

Dilip was sacked from his position alongside assistant coach Abhishek Nayar in April, but has now been given a one-year contract.

According to the report, the BCCI were looking for a foreign fielding coach but couldn’t find the right candidate.

“We have decided to reappoint Dilip for a year and he will be travelling with the Indian team for England. His contract so far is for one year,” a source in the Indian board confirmed.

Dilip is arguably the most-known fielding coach in the history of Indian cricket, largely because of his practice of handing out medals to the best fielder of the match.

Dilip will travel alongside head coach Gautam Gambhir, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan Ten Doeschate for the five-match Test tour of England, starting on June 20.

Ten Doeschate is likely to assist India ‘A’ coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar during the two four-day encounters against England Lions before the main series.

India’s new Test captain Shubman Gill, who is part of India A’s squad for the second game (June 6-9), is likely to miss the match as Gujarat Titans (GT) have qualified for the playoffs of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
