Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar believes Virat Kohli's form in the T20 World Cup 2024 does not concern him as the form of the team is more important. Kohli has managed just 75 runs in the World Cup so far at an average of 10.71, making it one of the worst campaigns for any top-order batter.
Kohli had an excellent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign, finishing as the leading run-getter with 741 runs. Before that, he also had a memorable ODI World Cup at home, where he smashed 765 runs.
As India prepare to take on South Africa in the T20 World Cup final on June 29 (Saturday) in Barbados, his team will hope he is among the runs as they look to clinch their first title since 2007. "Not really concerned about Virat Kohli's form because the team's form is far more important," Manjrekar told ANI.
Despite Kohli's poor Manjrekar believes India can still lift the trophy with this new template they have put in place for the marquee event.
"Of course, India can lift the World Cup 2024. India has discovered a new template, the modern template of playing T20 cricket, and it's paying rich dividends so far," he said.
Manjrekar also believes India will have to be wary of a few players from the Proteas side in order to end their trophy drought. "I would say one of the fast bowlers, either Anrich Nortje or Rabada or Quinton De Kock. In batting Quinton De Kock for sure," Manjrekar said.
Rain seems like it could play spoilsport in Barbados, but the ICC has added a reserve day in case the action on Saturday is washed out.
