Test Cricket Needs You: Lara, Rayudu Urge Kohli Not To Retire

Ambati Rayudu, not considered a staunch supporter of Kohli, also urged the former India captain not to retire.

Ever since the news of Virat Kohli thinking about announcing his retirement from Test cricket surfaced, various voices in the cricketing ecosystem have come out and urged the cricketer not to retire from the red-ball format.

However, Brian Lara and Ambati Rayudu showed their support for Virat to continue playing via their social media handles.

Lara, who has himself scored 11,953 runs at an outstanding average of 52.88, urged Kohli to continue playing the game as he believes a talent like Kohli would end up having an average of 60 by the end of his Test career.

“Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. @virat.kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career,” Lara wrote in an Instagram post.

Ambati Rayudu, not considered a staunch supporter of Kohli, also urged the former India captain not to retire as, according to him, people are not ready to see India bat without him in Tests yet.

Kohli, who was rated to break all cricketing records, has found going tough, averaging less than 30 in the last five years in Tests andas a result, his career average dropped to 46.85 after 123 matches and with 9,230 runs and 30 centuries in the bag.
