Shumban Gill started off the series extremely well, slamming three centuries in his first four innings. However, in the next three innings, he has managed just 16, 6 and 12, which has been a minor cause for concern. He has over 600 runs in the series already, and with potentially three more innings left in the series, he can certainly get a lot more.
Lavishing praise on Gill, former India captain Sourav Ganguly feels that this is the best he has seen Gill bat.
"This is the best you must have seen Shubman Gill playing Test cricket. This is the first time away from home, he has shown great defense. This is the best I have seen him bat in Test cricket. This is his position. He is a middle-order player," he said on Michael Clarke's podcast, Beyond23 Cricket Podcast.
Gill scored twin tons in the second Test, paving the way for India's first-ever win at Edgbaston. Despite being in control for most of the match, India succumbed to a five-wicket loss in the first Test at Headingley.
After failing in both innings at Lord's, Gill managed just 12 in the first innings of the Manchester Test. He will look to make amends when he gets a chance in the game next.
