Tim Southee Appointed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Bowling Coach Ahead Of IPL 2026

Southee's appointment comes on the back of the franchise roping in Shane Watson

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have confirmed that Tim Southee, a former player of the franchise, has been appointed the side’s bowling coach ahead of the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Southee, who recently served as England men’s side’s bowling consultant for the home season, including the India Test series, will replace Bharat Arun, who has incidentally shifted base to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

“KKR has always felt like home to me, and it’s an honour to return in this new role,” Southee said of the appointment.

“The franchise has an incredible culture, passionate fans, and a great group of players. I look forward to working closely with the bowlers and helping the team achieve success in IPL 2026.”

Speaking on the appointment, Venky Mysore, CEO of Kolkata Knight Riders, said: “We are delighted to welcome Tim Southee back to the KKR family, this time in a coaching capacity. Tim’s vast experience and technical expertise will be instrumental in shaping our bowling unit. His leadership qualities and calm approach make him an ideal mentor for our young bowlers.”

Southee played for the franchise as recently as IPL 2023, and it was with KKR that he had his most successful IPL season, taking 14 wickets at an economy of 7.85 in IPL 2022.

The 36-year-old has retired from international cricket but remains an active professional cricketer, having recently represented Birmingham Phoenix in The Hundred 2025.

Southee’s appointment means that KKR have done a complete coaching revamp. While Abhishek Nayar has replaced Chandrakant Pandit as head coach, both Shane Watson and Southee have also joined the coaching staff. On November 13 (Thursday), Watson was roped in as the franchise’s assistant coach ahead of IPL 2026.
