Birmingham Phoenix skipper Liam Livingstone had a night to remember in Match 10 of The Hundred 2025 against Oval Invincibles on August 12 (Tuesday) - delivering a match-winning performance and getting the better of a fiery on-field spat with Tom Curran, who called him a “fat slob.”
Livingstone shone with both bat and ball, taking a wicket before blasting an unbeaten 69 off just 27 deliveries to help Phoenix chase down a 181-run target at Edgbaston. The contest wasn’t just about runs, as tensions flared when he and Curran exchanged a series of verbal jabs, with Livingstone clearly having the last laugh.
“I have no idea why Tom started to spray me. He is one of my good friends and he called me a fat slob or something so I thought, ‘Let’s hope you don’t go for a few if you come back at the death.’ He did so I’m kind of happy with that,” Livingstone told BBC Two.
The Phoenix captain was merciless with the bat, smashing seven fours and five sixes - three of them off Curran. In total, he plundered 21 runs from just nine balls against him, including a four and two sixes in the space of three deliveries.
On the night, it’s safe to say Livingstone won the battle hands down, and by quite some distance.
