Travis Head registered a special record against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where he became the second-fastest batter to make 1000 runs in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Head reached the milestone in 575 deliveries. Only Andre Russell (545 balls) has aced the milestone quicker than him.
So far, Head has played 32 matches in the IPL and has scored 1014 runs in 588 deliveries at an average of 36.21 and a strike rate of 172.4. He has represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) as well before playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) from 2024 onwards.
His stint with SRH has been a revelation as he has defined the role of opening batter in modern T20 cricket by scoring 567 runs at a strike rate of 191.6 in the 2024 season. Even in 2025, he has had a decent start, but on the day against Mumbai, he was lacklustre.
Head scored just 28 runs in 29 deliveries as he was stuck on the crease against the slower deliveries bowled by MI bowlers. It is only the fifth instance in T20s and the first time in the IPL that he played more than 25 deliveries in an innings and scored at less than a 100 SR. It was also the first time in the IPL that Head completed a powerplay with a strike rate of less than 100.
