Virat Kohli, on March 4 (Tuesday), registered his 24th 50-plus score in the ICC ODI events - the most by any batter in the history of the ODI World Cup and the ICC Champions Trophy.
The Indian star batter achieved the landmark in the Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final against Australia, going past great Sachin Tendulkar, who had 23 50-plus scores in 58 innings.
Meanwhile, Kohli has gotten there in 53 innings. Not just that, the right-handed batter now also has the most 50-plus scores in semis or finals of ICC ODI events.
Kohli also joins former India captain Sourav Ganguly and Australia’s all-rounder Shane Watson to have three 50+ scores in ICC Champions Trophy knockouts.
24 - Virat Kohli (53 inns)
23 - Sachin Tendulkar (58 inns)
18 - Rohit Sharma (42 inns)
17 - Kumar Sangakkara (56 inns)
16 - Ricky Ponting (60 inns)
Kohli, who scored a century against Pakistan in the group stage, walked out to bat after India lost Shubman Gill in the fifth over. Indian captain Rohit Sharma then got out to Cooper Connolly in the eighth over, leaving India reeling at 43/2 in the 265-run chase.
Kohli, however, looked comfortable from the start, as he has done hundreds of times before in a run chase. The 36-year-old, who has 51 centuries in ODIs, added 91 runs with Shreyas Iyer for the third wicket and brought up his fifty off 53 deliveries.
