The Mumbai Indians (MI) will hope to put up a better show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after finishing at the bottom of the table last season. They made plenty of additions in the IPL mega auction in December, and so here are the four overseas players likely to start for them.
Fresh from a mammoth 259 in the Test series against Pakistan, Ryan Rickelton can certainly make an impact at the top of the order. He could open with Rohit Sharma and get Mumbai off to a bright start.
He certainly has the credentials, having hit nearly 2,500 runs as an opener in T20s at a strike rate of 138.
Another destructive batter in the line-up, Will Jacks played a couple of scorching knocks for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) last season. With RCB not exercising their RTM option, MI secured his services for INR 5.25 crore. While opening the innings will be ideal for him, he can come in at three where he strikes at 143.
Not to forget, he is a handy off-spinner, too, having picked up 60 T20 wickets at an economy rate of 7.38.
Mitchell Santner has played in the IPL for five seasons but has played just 18 matches so far. Over the last couple of years, MI have not had the best of times, and Santner's addition could prove to be a quality addition to their side.
Santner has 15 wickets in the IPL at an economy rate of 6.92. However, he has been lethal in the middle-overs, having picked up 41 wickets at an ER of seven in T20s since 2023
Trent Boult, a left-arm pacer with the ability to swing the new ball both ways, is a massive asset for any team. He has the most wickets (29) in the first over of an IPL innings. He also has the most wickets (22) in the powerplay in the IPL since 2023.
As a result, MI shelled out INR 12.5 crore for him and will count on him to set up the match for them up front.
