Virat Kohli fined for outburst against umpires

The RCB batter was not happy when he was caught and bowled off a ball he thought was a full-toss over his waist

Virat Kohli has been fined 50% of his match fee for showing dissent during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) tie against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Eden Gardens, thereby violating the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct.

Kohli (18 off 7) was dismissed caught and bowled by Harshit Rana off a full-toss which he thought was over his waist. However, following a check by the third umpire, it was deemed that the ball would have gone below Kohli's waist had he been inside the crease.

Rule 41.7 of ICC regulations states, "Any delivery, which passes or would have passed, without pitching, above waist height of the striker standing upright at the popping crease, is to be deemed to be unfair, whether or not it is likely to inflict physical injury on the striker. If the bowler bowls such a delivery the umpire shall immediately call and signal No-ball."

Kohli was given out on-field and the third umpire upheld the decision. RCB eventually went on to lose the game by just one run. This was their sixth straight loss of the season, seventh overall, as they lie at the bottom of the IPL 2024 table.
