India and England have had a history of playing some exciting T20Is over the years. From the inception of T20Is in 2006 till now, India have faced England in 24 encounters, winning 13 and losing 11.
The most famous encounter happens to be their first face-off in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup, which saw Yuvraj Singh smash Stuart Broad for six sixes in an over. The most recent head-to-head was the high-voltage semi-final in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which saw India thump England.
Let's look at the top-three run-getters when these two teams play T20Is against each other:
Virat Kohli has been one of the most successful batters against England, scoring 648 runs in 21 innings with five fifties, making him the second-highest run-scorer against the Englishmen.
He had a terrific series against them the last time England visited India. He scored 231 runs with three 70+ scores, remaining not out in all three of them.
Jos Buttler’s record against India has been decent. The English captain has scored 498 runs in 19 innings at an excellent strike rate of 146, with four fifties.
His best performance against India was undoubtedly the 2022 ICC T20 World Cup semi-final knock (80* off 49) in Adelaide and took his team to their second T20 World Cup final, which they eventually won against Pakistan.
Rohit Sharma made his international debut against England in the 2007 ICC T20 World Cup game. Unfortunately, due to Yuvraj’s iconic knock, Rohit did not get a chance to bat. That happens to be the only time Rohit has not batted against the Englishmen.
In 15 innings against England, Rohit has 467 runs, with three fifties and a century. The century came in Bristol during the 2018 T20I series, his third century, making him only the second player after Colin Munro to hit three T20I hundreds at that time.
In the most recent match, the 2024 ICC T20 World Cup semi-final, the former T20I captain scored 57(39), which laid the foundation for team India to post a good total of 171 in Guyana.
