Virat Kohli got off the mark off his 10th delivery in India's ICC Champions Trophy 2025 opener against Bangladesh, which is his third slowest in One-Day Internationals (ODI). Only on two other occasions has he taken more deliveries to score his first run. Kohli came in after Rohit Sharma was dismissed for 41 off 36 deliveries. He had put on 69 for the first wicket with Shubman Gill inside 10 overs to get India off to the perfect start in pursuit of 229.

Kohli, who is playing his 298th ODI, was kept in check by the Bangladesh bowlers, who did not allow him to get away. In fact, off the second delivery he faced, he was through a pull shot early, and the ball took the top edge and fell between slip and wicketkeeper.
That was a lucky break for Kohli, who has been cautious in his approach, especially in the early stages of his innings. He is also on the verge of becoming only the third player in ODI history to score 14,000 runs.
