Follow UsThe 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) got officially underway at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata through a grand opening ceremony.
A plethora of celebrities performed at the opening ceremony and the event, overall, was hosted by none other than Shah Rukh Khan, who is the owner of defending IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
The crowd went ballistic for the performance of the celebs, but the biggest cheer of the evening came for Virat Kohli, who was invited on to the stage by SRK. Kohli spoke a couple of words and then later shared the stage with Rinku Singh. Then, he broke into a mini-dance alongside SRK.
Moments later, Kohli was invited on to the stage again and he received a special felicitation. He was awarded with a special memento ahead of IPL 18. The memento was provided to him by BCCI President Roger Binny.
The opening ceremony overrunning meant that the toss for the first game got delayed.
