Virat Kohli Retired From The Wrong Format, Reckons Former RCB Teammate

The former India captain is only active in ODIs

With India staring at another massive defeat at home, former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) wicketkeeper-batter Shreevats Goswami reckons Virat Kohli should not have retired from Tests, and instead walked away from One-Day Internationals (ODI).

However, Kohli, India's most successful Test captain, retired from the format in May this year, but continues to be active in ODI cricket, which Goswami does not agree with.

“Ideally, Virat should have left playing ODIs & continued playing test cricket until he had nothing to give. Test cricket misses him. Not just as a player but just the energy he brought, the love & passion playing for 🇮🇳 where he made the team believe that they can win in any condition,” Goswami wrote on X.

“The winning mentality & that fire which was there under Virat Kohli feels missing in this team,” he added.

India did not lose a single Test series at home during Kohli's captaincy, and are now on the verge of losing their second series in last 12 months. Rohit Sharma-led India suffered a 3-0 whitewash against New Zealand last year, and now are on the verge of a 2-0 whitewash at the hands of South Africa.

In the ongoing Test in Guwahati, India were bowled out for just 201 in reply to South Africa's 489. The Proteas did not enforce the follow-on and are now on the verge of setting a massive total for India to chase.
