Virat Kohli scaled yet another batting peak in T20 cricket and the Indian Premier League (IPL). This happened after he completed his 17th run against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on Monday, April 7. With that, he became the second-fastest batter to complete 13,000 T20 runs.
He is the fifth batter in the world to have achieved this milestone after Chris Gayle, Alex Hales, Shoaib Malik, and Kieron Pollard. Naturally, he’s also the fifth highest scorer in T20 cricket. Only Gayle has completed 13,000 runs faster than Kohli, who reached there in his 386th innings. Gayle did it in 381 innings.
All others in the top five reached the milestone much later than Gayle and Kohli, with Hales taking 474, Malik taking 487 and Pollard taking 594 innings to notch up 13,000 runs in the format.
He reached the milestone after crunching a sumptuous cover drive against Trent Boult in the third over of the innings. The modern-day great has looked in really good rhythm so far in the game and at the time of writing, was batting on 36* off just 19 at the end of the powerplay.
