The suspense is finally over and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have a new captain for the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
For the longest time, it was expected that Virat Kohli would take back the reins from Faf du Plessis, but RCB confirmed today in Bengaluru that Rajat Patidar would be leading the side.
Patidar has been one of the standout batters for RCB since 2022, having amassed 728 runs at an average of 38.32 and strike rate of 165.1.
And in the wake of the announcement, Virat Kohli, former skipper and the ‘forever face’ of RCB, congratulated Patidar for becoming captain and stated that he has earned captaincy and deserves it completely.
"This is very well deserved, the entire team is behind you, you'll have all our support,” Kohli said.
“I've done it for many years, Faf has done it for many years, you've earned the right to be in this position. I'm sure you'll grow from strength to strength.”
Kohli urged all RCB fans to get behind Patidar and give him all the required backing. Patidar will be hoping to become the first RCB captain to win the IPL title for the franchise.
“I just wish him all the best and request all the fans to show him support and get behind him,” Kohli said.
“We must all get behind him and support him. The most important thing is the team and the franchise, so we should get behind him. Looking forward to seeing Rajat start off the new season with a bang."
