Babar Azam got off to the worst start possible in the tenth edition of Pakistan Super League (PSL) with a two-ball duck against Quetta Gladiators on April 12 (Saturday). Pakistan’s former captain Babar had a point to prove after being dropped from the five-match T20I series against New Zealand earlier last month.
However, in a 217-run chase, where Peshawar Zalmi needed all of his runs, Babar walked off on an empty note, chasing a wide delivery off Mohammad Amir’s bowling. The former Pakistan bowler could not contain his excitement, with a loud roar to send off Babar before his teammates mobbed him in a celebration.
Babar has been in quite a terrible run of form in the shortest format, with his last fifty coming all the way back on May 14, 2024, against Ireland, where he scored a 42-ball 75. Since then, he’s been dismissed four times in single digits, with a high score of 44, which came against the United States of America in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Funnily enough, Peshawar’s batting unit had as many as six openers, with four of them batting out of position to accommodate the duo of Saim Ayub and Babar Azam. Someone as prolific and aggressive as Mitchell Owen was seen batting at No.7, where he was on 18 off nine balls, at the time of writing this report.
