Deepti Sharma is a really good close-in fielder, and she proved that yet again in the third ODI of the England tour. With the series on the line, she grabbed a sensational catch at point to send back the dangerous Amy Jones.
Kranti Goud had already sent back the other opener Tammy Beaumont on the last ball of the first over after cleaning up her stumps with a brilliant delivery that nipped back after pitching.
She came back in the third over, and her first delivery was just a touch short and wide. Jones looked to slice it hard past the point fielder for a boundary. However, Deepti, who was stationed there after bowling her over, dove to her right full stretch and caught the ball in her right hand.
That reduced England to 8/2 in 2.1 overs, and the Indians were absolutely jubilant in the field, coming and enveloping Deepti in their embrace.
England, meanwhile, are chasing a record total of 319 to win the series decider. However, despite skipper Nat Sciver-Brunt and Emma Lamb having completed a hundred partnership by the time of writing this report, there’s a lot of work to be done.
