The 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been one filled with sloppy fielding and dropped catches, but four days ago in Chennai, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Kamindu Mendis took one of the greatest catches in the tournament’s history.
As an on-fire Dewald Brevis drilled a full delivery straight down the ground, the ball looked destined to go to the boundary and take the South African youngster close to a debut fifty. However, out of nowhere, Mendis dived FULL STRETCH and pouched a ludicrous catch, sending the entirety of Chepauk into stunned silence. It was truly one of the best catches witnessed in a very long time.
Well, four days on, Kamindu’s national teammate Dushmantha Chameera did his best impression of his teammate, taking a full stretch catch himself to delight the Delhi crowd.
As Mitchell Starc bowled a full one onto Anukul Roy’s pads, the left-hander pulled off a nonchalant flick that looked destined to cross the boundary ropes. However, just like Kamindu, Chameera popped up out of nowhere, dove to his left and completed a stunning catch.
This grab was not as insane or special as the Kamindu one, but it was, nevertheless, a moment to savour.
