Ben Stokes was at his furious self with on-field umpire Sharfuddoula, on day three of the second Test at Edgbaston, on July 4 (Friday), with a heated verbal exchange in the middle.
The incident happened in the eighth over of the innings, when the on-field umpire had adjudged the Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for a 22-ball 28. While it seemed plumb in front, the two Indian batters - Rahul and Jaiswal - discussed in the middle of the pitch, as the DRS timer was ticking down.
England skipper Stokes noticed that the timer had expired when the Indian batter Jaiswal was signalling to the umpire to go upstairs. Stokes was mighty upset with the Bangladesh umpire and was seen furiously exchanging words with him, as India were allowed to take the review.
As it turned out, Jaiswal’s decision to go upstairs was terrible as the left-hander saw three reds and had to walk back to the dressing room. But before that, Jaiswal had already joined Virender Sehwag and Rahul Dravid in the club of fastest Indian batters to 2,000 Test runs.
