England continued their domination in the second Test at Lord’s after folding Sri Lanka's first innings for just 196 runs, and scoring 427 themselves in the first innings batting first.
They played their second innings quickly, scoring 251 in just 54.3 overs, courtesy of Joe Root’s second ton (143 & 103). Sri Lankan bowlers were quite successful in bowling short lengths. With their backs turned against the wall, they looked towards the short-ball strategy to fetch them wickets.
It worked well for them, with five wickets on the day and Asitha Fernando and Lahiru Kumara picking six wickets between them in the second innings.
However, the quick runs from England ensured that Sri Lanka had to chase a mammoth target of 483 runs in the fourth innings. They have already lost Nishan Madushka and Pathum Nissanka in the second innings with only 53 runs on the board.
