India’s captain for the Asia Cup 2025, Suryakumar Yadav, revealed that he is really feeling good right now, after having undergone surgery to cure sports hernia that he developed during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.
“I’m feeling good right now. It’s been five to six weeks. A good process, good routines for the last six weeks and fingers crossed, feeling really well,” Surya said in a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official social media handles.
“It actually got diagnosed close to the end of the IPL. I felt it because I had a similar kind of injury last year as well and that’s how I got to know it. So a few checklists were there,” he added, speaking about the procedure involved in identifying the problem and what led to the solution.
"I tried those things, and then I realised that it was time to go and do a small MRI. When I did it, it was very clear. I did it post-IPL, and went to Germany,” said the 34-year-old, who had a successful surgery in Munich and thereafter joined BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for the rehab program.
Surya, who has had to deal with multiple injuries previously too, distinguished between the features of the previous National Cricket Academy (NCA) and the updated CoE.
“The gym… more than 30–35 people can train here together… about 60–70 wickets to practice as well. Then you have three grounds. Unbelievable facility and it’s the best I've seen for a really long time,” said Surya.
Under his leadership, India will take on the UAE on September 10 to begin their Asia Cup 2025 campaign.
