Playing after losing a family member is not an ideal time. It was a similar situation for Indian Premier League (IPL) star and Afghanistan cricket’s heartthrob Rashid Khan, late on August 29 (Friday).
While playing the first T20I of the Tri-Series involving Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as the other two teams, Rashid was seen mourning the death of his brother Haji Abdul Halim. Afghanistan opener Ibrahim Zadran first posted about his death on August 25 (Monday).
While the players of his own team, those who were near to him, consoled him, other Afghan cricketers sent their condolences via social media posts. But it was the Pakistan team, against whom Afghanistan were playing the first game of the tri-series, that won the hearts with their gesture.
As captured in a video shared by a netizen on social media site X (formerly Twitter), an emotional Rashid Khan is seen being hugged by the members of the Pakistan team, including star pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi, who has also shared the dressing room with Rashid during Pakistan Super League (PSL).
As for the game, Pakistan beat Afghanistan comprehensively by 39 runs, and their captain, Salman Ali Agha, was named Player of the Match.
