India’s dynamic opener Shubman Gill is one of the best pullers of the ball in the game of cricket. What makes Gill’s pull shots special is that he is one of the few batters who can execute that shot off the front foot.
The 25-year-old has scored more than 400 runs via a pull shot in ODIs since 2022, only behind Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka.
In India’s first game of the 2025 Champions Trophy against Bangladesh in Dubai on February 20 (Thursday), Gill showed everyone why he is one of the best in the business when it comes to this particular shot.
It was his short-arm jab in the 2019 Under-19 World Cup that left everyone in awe, and Gill replicated almost a similar shot against Bangladesh, but this one travelled almost 100 meters.
Chasing 228, Gill allowed his opening partner Rohit Sharma to dictate terms in the first eight overs. Rohit was on 37 off 31, while Gill had only managed 14 off 17 deliveries at the end of eight overs, but then came Tanzim Hasan Sakib and Gill took him to the cleaners.
The young opener whacked him for 14 runs in the ninth over, including a six that went into the second tier at deep mid-wicket. Sakib hit the back of a length and Gill nonchalantly sent it out of the park, even leaving Rohit super impressed.
The top-ranked ODI batter, Gill has amassed the most runs in the 50-over format since 2023.
