Babar Azam became the joint-fastest to reach 6,000 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODI). He achieved this feat during the ODI tri-series final against New Zealand at the National Stadium, Karachi on February 14.
He got to the landmark with a superb drive through cover point off Jacob Duffy. Babar has taken 123 innings, joining South Africa batter Hashim Amla at the top, who also got to the landmark in the same number of innings. In fact, both Amla and Babar reached the landmark in 126 matches. In doing so, Babar beat Virat Kohli, who got to the milestone in 136 innings.
Babar was eventually dismissed by Nathan Smith for just 29 off 34 deliveries. He has scored 10, 23 and now 29 in the three innings, opening the batting for Pakistan.
Skipper Mohammad Rizwan earlier clarified that Babar will continue to open even in the upcoming Champions Trophy. Pakistan begin their Champions Trophy campaign against New Zealand on February 19 in Karachi.
