Karun Nair almost did a Shivam Dube, as the Delhi Capitals (DC) fielder at long-on signalled a ‘non-existent’ six against Punjab Kings, on May 24 (Saturday). The 33-year-old was fielding in the long-on region when a ball was launched high towards him, and he put on an incredible display.
While it looked like Nair had stopped the ball, he immediately signalled a six, shaking his head in utmost disappointment. In the replays, it looked like Nair might have stepped on the boundary cushion as he leapt to stop the ball.
However, replays confirmed that Nair had, in fact, done really well to stop the boundary and prevented a six. The right-handed batter ended up saving five runs for his side, as the batters only ran a single.
It was almost a carbon copy of Dube’s ‘dubious’ signal against Punjab Kings, when he signalled a six only for the umpire to overturn it as a four. Earlier in the day, Nair made a well-deserved comeback in the Indian Test setup after being named in the 18-member squad for the five-match Test series against England.
