Watch: Virat Kohli gestures 'no sandpaper in his pocket' to celebrate Steve Smith dismissal

Smith was dismissed by 4 courtesy of a snorter from Prasidh Krishna

Virat Kohli, known to often get under the skin of the opposition with his aggression on the field, took it to a different level on day three of the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). He emptied his pocket to indicate that he had no sandpaper in it following the dismissal of Steve Smith, who perished thanks to a snorter from Prasidh Krishna. Kohli is currently leading the side in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who is out due to back spasms.

In 2018, Australian cricket was rocked by the "sandpaper gate " scandal, which showed Cameron Bancroft applying sandpaper to the ball before putting his back in his trousers in the Cape Town Test against South Africa.

As a result, Bancroft, along with then captain Steven Smith and vice-captain David Warner, received bans for the involvement in that episode.  While Bancroft was slapped with a nine-month ban, Smith and Warner received one-year bans.

In fact, Kohli was the first to ask the Indian crowd to clap for Smith instead of booing him at the 2019 World Cup in England, for which he received the ICC Fairplay award for his gesture.

In the ongoing Test, Smith was dismissed for four, falling one run short of 10,000 Test runs. India have set Australia a 162-run target to regain the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia last beat India in a Test series in 2015.
