It’s not often that Virat Kohli gets overshadowed by another player ahead of a big game, but that happened today at the Wankhede Stadium with Jasprit Bumrah being declared fit for the clash.
Bumrah had been out of action since January due to a back injury, but having been cleared by the BCCI’s medical team, he walked right back into the Mumbai Indians’ Playing 11.
Hardik Pandya brought Bumrah into the attack in the fourth over of the RCB innings. The Bengaluru team had gotten off to an absolute flyer despite losing Phil Salt in the very first over.
The expectation was that Bumrah would put a lid on RCB’s scoring, however, that was far from the case. Devdutt Padikkal took a single off Bumrah’s first ball, which meant that it was time for Kohli vs Bumrah.
Kohli, usually known for treading with caution up-front, decided to send out a proper statement. On the first ball he faced off Bumrah, Kohli gave himself room by moving to the on-side, and then dismissively pulled MI’s talisman over mid-wicket for a six.
‘NO RESPECT’, said Ian Bishop on air and he couldn’t have been more right. It was as disrespectful as it could get. Kohli is not messing about this season indeed.
