Wayne Parnell named as Mulder’s replacement for Windies ODIs

Wiaan Mulder has been ruled out of the series with a left side strain

Explosive all-rounder Wiaan Mulder has been ruled out of the three-match ODI series against West Indies with a left-side strain, with left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell replacing him in the squad. Mulder got injured during the course of the second Test against West Indies, with a grade-on side strain.

Not just that, one of the Proteas’ white-ball mainstay, Keshav Maharaj has been ruled out of the ODI series. Left-arm wrist spinner Tabraiz Shamsi has been added to the ODI squad. Maharaj ruptured his left Achilles tendon during the fourth day of the second Test, with a high chance that the left-arm spinner could be out of the upcoming ODI World Cup.

The three-match ODI series isn’t part of the ODI Super League, and South Africa still have to win their series against Netherlands to stand a chance.

South Africa squad for ODIs against West Indies: Temba Bavuma (capt), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Bjorn Fortuin, Sisanda Magala, Lungi Ngidi, Ryan Rickelton, Wayne Parnell, Andile Phehlukwayo, Tabraiz Shamsi, Tristan Stubbs, Lizaad Williams, Rassie van der Dussen. Third ODI only: Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, David Miller
