At 72/0, India were well-placed to chase down 353 on a good batting track in Rajkot. It was all down to Indian skipper Rohit Sharma’s brilliance with the bat, with him on 54 off 34 balls, as the boundaries seemed way too short. With the partnership between Virat Kohli and Rohit blooming, it looked like India would finish this game with ease.
But then Glenn Maxwell turned the tide around with his bowling display. The off-spinner ended up with figures of 4/30, which included a stunning one-handed grab removing Rohit. In the post-match presentation, Rohit insisted that he was ‘pretty happy’ with his form.
"I'm pretty happy [with my own form]. Of course I'd like to go all the way along but as long as I'm hitting like that I'm happy,” Rohit said in the post-match presentation.
Despite India’s loss at the hands of Australia in the third ODI, Rohit reckoned that the management won’t be looking ‘too much’ into the game.
“Unfortunately not the result we wanted today but I'm not going to look too much into this game. We've been playing really well,” he added.
But at the same time, the Indian skipper insisted that the team’s performance across the last 7-8 games in different conditions was a big positive sign.
“The last 7-8 ODIs we've played really well in different conditions. We were challenged at different times and we took that challenge really well,” Rohit added.
India opted to give opportunity to Ravichandran Ashwin and Washington Sundar in this three-match ODI series. While Sundar didn’t quite make the fullest use of the opportunity, Ashwin influenced the outcome of the second ODI in Indore. Rohit, however, was mum when asked about the squad but insisted that the 15-man squad is very clear.
“When we talk about the 15-man squad we are very clear on what we want and who the guys are that will do the job for us. We're not confused. We know exactly where we are heading."
"It's a team sport and we want everyone to come and play their part - that's how we win championships. It's about looking after the body and try and stay fresh for the next one and half months," he added.
